Although train service has been part of Joliet since 1852, it took sixty years before the city had train service with style. This photo shows part of the massive awning over the east Waiting Room entrance.

Jarvis Hunt designed Joliet Union Station, as well as other train stations and public buildings. His work was so renowned that at least five Hunt-designed buildings (including Joliet Union Station) are part of the National Register of Historic Places.
